Principal's Message

Principal’s Message

It is my pleasure to welcome you to a new and exciting school year!  For those of you who have attended Haiku Elementary School in the past, we are glad you are returning.  New families, we are pleased to have you join us. Your child’s success in school is enhanced when there is a mutually supportive effort between family and school staff.  Your support and involvement are needed and always welcome at Haiku School.  There are many ways to be involved, including opportunities to volunteer, attending school activities, participating in PTA and Title I school wide events and joining your child for lunch.  The school year 2017-2018 will be my 4th  year as the Principal at Haiku.  Being the leader of such a dedicated and dynamic staff is most rewarding.  May this year be one of wonderment and high achievement for your child and great satisfaction for you.

Haiku Elementary School is a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school located on the slopes of Haleakala in the upcountry community of Haiku. Haiku Elementary School offers a comprehensive kindergarten through fifth grade curriculum in a rural setting, with large open spaces for free play. Haiku Elementary is part of the Kekaulike Complex that, at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, served 4,073 students in seven schools: five elementary (grades K-5), one intermediate (grades 6-8) and one high school (grades 9-12). Four years ago, the complex schools served 3,947 students. Three- and four-year-old preschool special education students can participate in an inclusion classroom with Maui Economic Opportunity’s Head Start program or in a self-contained classroom, which are both housed on the campus. The school is committed to integrating the arts, technology, and wellness into the curriculum to allow students to grow and explore in a multi-cultural and ever-changing world.
